  • Review from Okay but not a game changer.

Okay but not a game changer.

I hate to admit it but this is the first set of scales from TKC that have ever disappointed me. I have maybe ten sets of scales, mostly for ESEE knives but two sets for Ontario RAT-series knives. All have been fantastic until this pair which is kind of disappointing. What's odd is that I also got scales for my RAT-3 and they're amazing! The ESEE 3 is nearly identical to the RAT-3 so I don't know why the scales are so different. The ESEE 3 scales from TKC are nearly flat with very little palm swell at all. This pair also lacks the grippy texturing of the ones I just got for my RAT-3. And where the RAT-3 scales have a very nice recessed lanyard mount the ESSE scales simply have a hole. It doesn't even seem chamfered or beveled, it's just a hole. The entire effect of the scales is towards blockiness which is disappointing since that'w why I replaced the stock scales to begin with.

Perhaps I should have ordered the Standard instead of the Extended scales. In all fairness to TKC they have pictures of the scales. But the overhead shots are lacking and it's not obvious that there's not much palm swell.

Overall these scales are acceptable, and it's not worth the restocking fee to return them and exchange them for the Standard scales. But I wouldn't buy these again and I probably wouldn't recommend them to anyone. That said the quality is fine, fit and finish is what you'd expect from TKC. The shape doesn't really suit me that well but if you like the flatter ones these will probably work well for you.

Thank you for your review! We will consider the comments and suggestions you made. -- TKC
