The Ontario Knife Company has a long history of manufacturing high quality knives. Here at The Knife Connection, we are dedicated to offering our customers a great selection of high quality knives and that's why we are highlighting our OKC knives today.

Founded in 1889 in Naples New York, the Ontario Knife Company has a long history of manufacturing high quality knives. Their credentials include producing bayonets and survival knives for your United States Armed Forces. In addition to manufacturing tactical knives for the Armed Forces, the team at OKC also offer a wide variety of products from survival knives to kitchen cutlery.

Part of OKC's success is a result of hiring excellent designers to craft their knives. For example, many of their knives were designed by Jeff Randall, survival experts and one of the founders of Randall's Adventure and Training and ESEE Knives. Combining those efficient designs with over a century of experience in the field of knifemaking has helped the Ontario Knife Company remain a major knife manufacturer with a reputation for reliable products. Today we will be looking at a few of our favorite models from OKC.

Folding Knives

RAT Model 1: The RAT folding line is one of the most popular types of knives that OKC ever produced. The RAT Model 1 was designed by Jeff Randall and is a hardworking folding option. The knife measures in a 6" closed and features a 3.625" drop point AUS-8 Stainless Steel blade. The blade features a reversible thumb stud and is held in place with a secure liner lock. The index finger grove and thumb jimping also make these knives easy to grip and use.

RAT Model 2: The RAT Model 2 takes everything great about the RAT Model 1 and scales it down to a knife with a 4.1" closed length and a 3" blade. While the RAT Model 1 is a great knife, it's 6" closed size can be a little larger than most people's Every Day Carry needs. The RAT Model 2 may be smaller, but it is still a workhorse in its own right. At only 2.7 oz, this knife is easy to throw in a pocket but can also handle a wide range of basic utility tasks.

Fixed Blade Knives

RAT 3: The RAT 3 is a high performance knife designed with law enforcement and special forces teams in mind. These knives feature a versatile 3" drop point blade that is well suited to a wide variety of tasks. They can make great EDC knives, camping knives, or they can be used as hunting knives for preparing a wide variety of game animals. The powder coated full flat ground 1095 carbon steel blade holds its edge well and can handle some serious abuse.

RAT 5: If you are looking for a larger knife in the RAT family, the RAT 5 is another great choice. These knives have the same no frills design in a bigger package. These knives have a 4 ⅜" blade with a modified drop point. The thumb jimping on the spine helps to provide a secure grip for performing finer tasks and the handle features a pointed pommel. These knives are extremely versatile and are a great choice for hunting, camping, and survival training.

TAK-1: The TAK-1 9s another OKC option designed for versatility and comfort. These knives are an especially great choice for users with large hands due to their ample handle size. The TAK-1 is 10" overall with a 4.25" drop point blade. This knife can be used tactically, but it was designed with bushcraft as its main focus. These knives can process firewood, perform campsite chores, and be used to process game, making it the perfect choice for general survival.

RTAK II: If you are looking for a large blade that can handle tough outdoor tasks, then the RTAK II is the knife for you. With a 10" blade and a weight of 16.5 oz, this knife can do some serious chopping. The blade is constructed from 5160 carbon spring steel and has a drop point designed paired with a partially serrated cutting edge. If you have some big bushcraft jobs to tackle, having the RTAK II in your corner can be a big help.
