Dave's Story
Dave Wenger first became interested in knives—swords, actually—as a boy in the late 80s and early 90s. He grew up fascinated by medieval arms and armor. One day, he decided to try making his own weapons by flattening out metal conduit that his dad had lying around the shop, cutting a tip with a hacksaw, and using athletic tape on the handle, transforming himself into a feudal Japanese samurai.

It didn’t take long, while fencing with his younger brother in the backyard, for him to realize that these "swords" needed frequent straightening and replacement. Thus, Dave Wenger's dad faced two choices: talk to his grandpa, a longtime blacksmith, about making a proper forge and anvil, or risk losing all the copper in the house to Dave's "copper age" weaponry. His grandpa was happy to oblige, and off he went. Fast forward 18 years and many hammering sessions later, in June 2012, Dave got serious and earned his Journeyman Smith rating with the American Bladesmith Society (ABS). In January 2013, he founded Wenger Blades.
