Built on GEC’s popular #72 frame, this knife measures approximately 3 7/8 inches closed, giving it enough size for real everyday work while remaining comfortable in the pocket.
This Northfield version is dressed in genuine Kingwood handle covers, giving every knife its own character through naturally varying grain and coloration. Kingwood’s rich brown and reddish tones are an excellent match for the old-school styling of the French Creek Trapper.
The Blades
The French Creek Trapper features two traditional blades made from 1095 carbon steel. GEC's Northfield UN-X-LD line receives its premium treatment, including mirror-polished blades, traditional blade stamping, nail pulls, and additional cosmetic finishing.
1095 is a classic American cutlery steel prized for its ability to take a very keen edge and sharpen easily. As a carbon steel, it will naturally develop a patina with use and should be kept clean and lightly oiled to prevent corrosion.
The Handle
The standout feature of this version is the Kingwood handle. Kingwood is a dense, richly figured hardwood, and the grain pattern will vary from knife to knife—making each example unique. Early examples from this #72 production run show considerable variation in the Kingwood grain and coloration.
As part of GEC's premium Northfield UN-X-LD series, the French Creek Trapper receives the elevated fit, finish, and traditional detailing that distinguishes Northfield models from the standard Tidioute line.
